Data visualization tool puts hazardous waste data at your fingertips

This data visualization tool was created to show, in an interactive way, data provided by the Parties to the Basel Convention on generation and transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and other wastes. It contains data for the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The tool is fully compatible with Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. The Secretariat is working to make it also compatible with other browsers.
There is a video tutorial available in case you need help to understand how the tool works.

San Salvador, El Salvador, 17 - 19 July 2012


The Secretariat of the Basel Convention and Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for the Central American sub-region including Mexico have organized a three-day workshop for Parties to the Convention of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Workshop took place in San Salvador, El Salvador, from 17 to 19 July 2012.

The event covered national reporting, waste classification, national inventory and national reporting from the national level perspective. Participants were invited to exchange knowledge and experiences through lectures, exercises and group discussions.

Representatives from Mexico, Colombia, Cuba and Costa Rica gave presentations about their implementation of the Convention, highlighting their national processes, information on data collection and available facilities, lessons learned and the current challenges they face in these areas.

Representatives of 17 Latin American and Caribbean Parties took part in the workshop.

The European Commission, the government of Norway and the Secretariat of the Basel Convention provided financial support for this workshop.

Jakarta, Indonesia, 24 - 26 April 2012


The Secretariat of the Basel Convention and the Basel Convention Regional Center for the South-East Asia (BCRC-SEA) have organized a three-day workshop in Banten, Indonesia, for Asian Parties of the Convention, from 24 to 26 April 2012.

Twenty two participants, representing fifteen countries, took part in the event.

Representatives from Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore gave presentations about their implementation of the Convention, highlighting their national processes, information on data collection and available facilities, lessons learned and the current challenges they face in these areas.

The European Commission, the governments of Norway and Japan, and the Secretariat of the Basel Convention provided financial support for the Banten workshop.

The Secretariat of the Basel Convention together with the Basel Convention Regional Centre for the English-speaking Countries in Africa have organized a three-day workshop for Parties to mainly to English and French speaking African Parties of the Convention. The Workshop took place in Pretoria, South Africa, from 24 to 26 May 2011.

Representatives of twenty-two Parties took part in the workshop.

The event covered national reporting, waste classification, national inventory and national reporting from the national level perspective. Participants were invited to exchange knowledge and experiences through lectures, exercises and group discussions. Additionally, six countries from the region and a representative of Germany gave presentations on the status of implementation of the Convention, highlighting their processes, information on data collection, information on available facilities, lessons learned and the current issues they face in these areas.

The event served as an opportunity for Parties to exchange knowledge and experiences in the topics covered, through lectures, exercises and group discussions.

The European Commission, the government of Germany and the SBC have provided funds for the realization of this workshop.
