Fact Sheet: Asian Regional Partners Forum on Combating Environmental Crime (ARPEC)

Objective To enhance cooperation, collaboration and the exchange of best practice to develop the regional response to environmental crime across Asia and the Pacific.

Membership any intergovernmental, non-governmental organizations, governmental agencies and private institutions that are active in combatting environmental crimes in Asia and the Pacific

Geographical scope Regional – Asia and the Pacific with participants from across the globe
Substantive Scope wildlife crime (terrestrial and marine); forest crime and timber trafficking, and pollution crimes including illegal trade in ozone depleting substances (ODS) and hazardous waste
Governance structure ARPEC is administered by UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) with collaboration from active partners such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and INTERPOL

Activities
  • Twelve face-to-face meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, have been held.
  • A joint awareness-raining event was held in 2010.
  • Media releases have been issued.
  • A number of spin-off projects and joint activities have been organized through contacts and bilateral relationships cultivated through ARPEC.
