Within its mandate to improve the implementation of and compliance with Article 9 on preventing and combating illegal traffic, the Committee was requested to consider what additional steps could be taken to improve implementation of and compliance with this provision.
In order to undertake this task, the Committee has developed two questionnaires aimed at seeking views of Parties and others on the matter. A questionnaire for Parties was developed in English, French, and Spanish and made available to Parties on 5 June 2018 with an invitation to reply by 30 June 2018. A questionnaire for Basel Convention Regional and Coordinating Centres as well as for other entities with a mandate to assist Parties in preventing and combating illegal traffic was also developed in English, and made available on 7 June 2018 with an invitation to reply by 30 June 2018.
A report on the additional steps that could be taken to improve implementation of and compliance with Article 9 of the Convention was considered during the thirteenth meeting of the Committee.
