International Telecommunication Union

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs). More 

ITU is a member of the Partnership for Action on Computing Equipment (PACE), which is facilitated by the Secretariat of the Basel Convention. PACE is a multi-stakeholder public-private partnership that provides a forum for representatives of personal computer manufacturers, recyclers, international organizations, associations, academia, environmental groups and governments to tackle environmentally sound refurbishment, repair, material recovery, recycling and disposal of used and end-of-life computing equipment.

The Secretariat participates in the following ITU-led activities, among others:

  • The work of ITU Study Groups on environment which develop technical standards and guidance papers on environmentally sound life-cycle management of ICT equipment, in particular on avoidance and minimization of e-waste.
