Performance Evaluation of the Regional Centres

Basel Convention has adopted a set of criteria on an interim basis for evaluating the performance of the regional centres periodically in order to ensure better services are provided to eligible parties. The Convention has also adopted a methodology on an interim basis for the evaluation of performance and sustainability based on these criteria. The Conference of the Parties at its 12 meeting evaluated Basel Convention Regional Centres for the first time and will evaluate them again in 2019 and every four years thereafter.

Feedback on the methodology to evaluate the performance of the regional centres

In its seventh meeting the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention adopted decision SC-7/17, which among other things, requested the Secretariat to consider possible adjustments to the methodology for evaluating regional centres, taking into account lessons learned, the views of the centres, as well as the views of parties, for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its eighth meeting, and invited the centres and parties to provide their views on these by 30 June 2016. The Secretariat reminded the Parties and the Centres on 20 April 2016 to submit their views, if any, to the Secretariat on this matter. Following comments were received.
