Basel and Stockholm conventions Regional Centre for the Caribbean Region (BCRC-SCRC Caribbean)

Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago

Date of establishment: October 2004 (Framework Agreement). More SCRC nominated in 2023

By decision BC-III/19 the Conference of the Parties of the Basel Convention in 1995, selected Trinidad and Tobago as a site to establish BCRC for the Caribbean sub-region. This resulted to the establishment of BCRC Caribbean in 1998 however a Framework Agreement for its establishment was signed only in 2004. In August 2022 the Centre was nominated to serve as a Stockholm Convention Regional Centre by the GRULAC region and was subsequently endorsed by the COP of Stockholm Convention in 2023 as a Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and Transfer of Technology for four years.

Parties served: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenadines

Expertise: Capacity building, technology transfer in the areas of ESM of Hazardous wastes.
