Online briefings on the twelfth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention (OEWG-12)

On 9 July 2020, the Bureau of the OEWG of the Basel Convention agreed to hold the OEWG-12 according to two components consisting of an online segment and a face to face segment, as an exceptional measure in the light of the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The provisional agenda, the tentative schedule of work of the meeting, thematic documents for the meetings as well as information for participants will be made available on the meetings webpage at:


The webinar briefings will provide information to all Parties and observers on the objectives, possible outcomes, and working modalities of the online segment of the OEWG-12 consisting of two online sessions held over two days, on Tuesday, 1 September 2020 and on Thursday, 3 September 2020.

Target Groups

  • Party contact points under the Basel Convention, in particular Party representatives planning to attend the meeting;
  • Permanent missions;
  • Admitted observers to the Basel Convention planning to attend the meeting, or other stakeholders interested in the work of the Basel Convention.

Information for Participants

The internet-based software, Webex, will be used for the video/teleconference session which allows sharing voice and data, such as PowerPoint presentations. Webinar participants would need to use the following items: a headset (preferred), a computer, a phone, a microphone, speakers and a good internet connection.
