Objective
  • Fight against and enhance the effectiveness of fight against organized environmental crime
  • Detect, investigate, disrupt and prosecute environmental crimes
  • Exchange information and experiences relating to best practices in dealing with environmental crimes
  • Non-operational information exchange about  legal frameworks
Legal Nature Informal network facilitated by Europol and utilizing existing legal framework
Membership
  • Environmental crime investigation services or competent authorities responsible for fighting environmental crime in the framework of the Statement of Intent.
  • Public prosecutors or their networks in European states
Criteria Members must fulfill the following criteria:
  • Undertake objectives / functions detailed within the Statement of Intent
  • Designate an National Contact Point for each country with direct access to practitioners in this area

Substantive scope Environmental crime
Governance structure Annual general meeting meets annually – each state gets one vote in this forum
Steering group (Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Germany) + Europol, which elects a President
Presidency – 1 year terms, annual activities and communication
Secretariat – Europol acts as the Secretariat, supporting and facilitating the Presidency and steering group
