Call for information and follow-up to the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention

At its fourteenth meeting held in Geneva from 29 April to 10 May 2019, the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention agreed on the decisions contained in annex I to the report of the meeting, document UNEP/CHW.14/28. Many of the decisions included invitations to Parties and others to provide information.

A letter dated 4 June 2019 was sent to Parties and observers to solicit information sought in the decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention at its fourteenth meeting. Item 8 of the letter relates to further actions to address plastic waste under the Basel Convention.

In paragraph 35 of decision BC-14/13, the Conference of the Parties invited Parties and others to submit to the Secretariat, by 1 June 2020, information on the following plastic waste referred to in entry Y48 in Annex II and entry B3011 in Annex IX to the Convention:

1. Plastic waste almost exclusively consisting of one cured resin or condensation product including but not limited to the following:
   1. Urea formaldehyde resins;
   2. Phenol formaldehyde resins;
   3. Melamine formaldehyde resins;
   4. Epoxy resins;
   5. Alkyd resins;
2. Plastic waste almost exclusively consisting of one of the following fluorinated polymer wastes:
   1. Perfluoroethylene/propylene (FEP);
   2. Perfluoroalkoxy alkanes:
      1. Tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether (PFA);
      2. Tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoromethyl vinyl ether (MFA);
   3. Polyvinylfluoride (PVF);
   4. Polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF).
