At its seventeenth meeting, held from 28 April to 9 May 2025 in Geneva, the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention adopted decision BC-17/11 on the further consideration of plastic waste.
Through this decision, the Conference of the Parties invited Parties and others to provide information and comments on the amendments to Annexes II, VIII and IX to the Basel Convention adopted in decision BC-14/12 (plastic waste amendments), particularly regarding their implementation, challenges and impacts, as applicable. The Secretariat has been requested to compile the information received and submit it to the Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention for consideration at its fifteenth meeting.
In addition, the Conference of the Parties requested the Secretariat to prepare a draft report for submission to the eighteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, taking into account the outcome of the consideration by the Open-ended Working Group, and to make the draft report available on the Convention website by 31 October 2026. Parties and others are also invited to provide comments on the draft report, for subsequent consideration by the Conference of the Parties.
