With kind support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), the Secretariat has pilot-tested the Technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of plastic wastes to promote the use of the updated technical guidelines, facilitate the development of policies and to strengthen the capabilities for the management of plastic waste in target countries.
The guidelines were pilot tested in seven countries across three regions, in cooperation with BCRC-SCRC Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago), BCRC Slovakia, and BCRC-SCRC China:
- Caribbean: Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Lucia;
- Eastern Europe: Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina;
- Asia-Pacific: Mongolia, and a province of China.
Each project involved an assessment of the country’s plastic waste management practices against the technical guidelines; identification of gaps; and development of potential strategies to improve plastic waste management.
These pilot tests were implemented in conjunction with pilot testing of the Practical guidance on the development of inventories.
