The on-line reporting database of the Basel Convention

Parties to the Basel Convention are required to transmit their national reports to the Secretariat of the Basel Convention (SBC) annually, pursuant to paragraph 3 of Article 13 of the Basel Convention. The online reporting database of the Basel Convention, developed by the SBC, provides access to data and information contained in these national reports. The database is accessible to Parties and others through the Basel Convention website.

The reporting database of the Basel Convention, which is the basis for its online version, was designed and developed, for the Secretariat of the Basel Convention, by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

The purpose of the online reporting database is to efficiently manage, process and retrieve data and information contained in the national reports transmitted by Parties, annually, to the Secretariat.

Electronic Reporting System of the Basel Convention

The Electronic Reporting System (ERS) of the Basel Convention is the tool to be used by Parties (available since November 2013) to submit their annual national reports, pursuant to Article 13 (3) of the Convention.

The tool was developed with the objectives of facilitating the submissions of national reports and of fulfilling the requests from the Conference of the Parties in the area of Reporting (BC-10/14, BC-10/29, BC-11/7, BC.Ex 1/1, RC.Ex 1/1, SC.Ex-1/1). The new system operates similarly to the Electronic Reporting System of the Stockholm Convention.

Each Focal Point to the Basel Convention is the responsible authority to submit annual reports to the Secretariat, by the 31 December of each year.

If you are the Focal Point of your country and if you have not received information on how the submission should be done, please send an email to sbc_natrep [at] unep.org with a request for more information.

Consultation of individual reports by Party:

The Secretariat is working on improving the Electronic Reporting System and will make available on this website more advanced queries on the data submitted through the reports. Below, you can find two options to check the reports submitted:

1) Individual reports - for all parties – as of March 2015, only years 2012 and 2013 are made available.

2) Online Reporting Database - for consulting submissions done until 2 September 2013, for reports concerning years 2001 to 2011.

Submission of reports – listed by years:

To submit a new report, the focal point needs to log into the system through the specific year, for which links are listed below, and fill in the questionnaire. You will be asked to provide a username and a password. Please note that reports previously submitted can also be accessed here in a read-only mode.

The excel file template for Tables 6 and 7 can be found here. Simple instructions to help with the submission process can be found here.
