Bureau of the Conference of the Parties

Composition and tenure

The Bureau of the meeting of the Conference of the Parties is composed of a President, three Vice-Presidents, and a Rapporteur, elected from among the representatives of the Parties present at the meeting. In electing its Bureau, the meeting of the Conference of the Parties takes into account the principle of equitable geographical representation.

The offices of President and Rapporteur normally rotate among the five United Nations regions.

The President, three Vice-Presidents and the Rapporteur elected at an ordinary meeting will commence their terms of office at the closure of the meeting at which they are elected and will remain in office until the closure of the next ordinary meeting of the Conference of the Parties, for which they will serve as the Bureau, including for any intervening extraordinary meeting. Exceptionally, one or more of these officers may be re-elected for one further consecutive term.
