First meeting of the Expert Working Group on Environmentally Sound Management

Outcome

The meeting was attended by 18 members of the Expert Working Group and 9 observers. The Group mainly considered short-term priority actions to support the implementation of ESM including the selection of three pilot projects for implementation in the short-term, the development of guidance on key topics of ESM as well as priority waste streams and incentives to encourage the private sector to invest in ESM. The Group also discussed its work programme which is to be considered for endorsement by the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in May 2015.

1.The first meeting of the Expert Working Group on Environmentally Sound Management of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal was held at the Dazzler Hotel San Martin, Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 10 to 12 December 2013. The meeting was hosted by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for the South American Region in Argentina.
