Summary of outcomes: The ninth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) was held from 16 to 19 September 2014 in Geneva with pre-meetings on 15 September. 272 participants attended, representing 106 parties, 1 non-party, and 41 observer organizations.
As decided in decision BC-11/19, the meeting was organized in a new format, two days of plenary sessions on the first and the last day and two days of contact group meetings on the second and the third day. The feedback on the new format will be collected to support the Conference of the Parties at its twelfth meeting to take a decision on the operation of the OEWG.
The Working Group took ten decisions including on the Cartagena Declaration on the Prevention, Minimization and Recovery of Hazardous Wastes and Other Wastes, options for the operation of the Open-ended Working Group, Technical guidelines for the environmentally sound management of POPs wastes, mercury wastes, and electronic and used electrical and electronic equipment, national reporting, consultation with the Implementation and Compliance Committee, providing further legal clarity, Partnership for Action on Computing Equipment, and the work programme of the Open-ended Working Group for 2016-2017.
A letter dated 29 September 2014 was sent to parties and others inviting comments on documents and nominations of experts as a follow-up to the meeting.
