During its sixteenth meeting held from 1 to 12 May 2023 in Geneva, the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP-16) considered further activities that could be conducted under the Basel Convention in response to developments in scientific knowledge and environmental information and health impacts related to plastic waste as a source of land pollution, marine plastic litter and microplastics (UNEP/CHW.16/10, UNEP/CHW.16/INF/18, UNEP/CHW.16/INF/62).
COP-16 invited Parties and others to submit comments on the further activities outlined in documents UNEP/CHW.16/INF/18 and UNEP/CHW.16/INF/62 to the Secretaariat by 28 Febraury 2024, for consideration at the Open-ended Working Group’s fourteenth meeting in June 2024.
